Home is where the tapwater doesn’t taste funny!
46 TDS is really low for tap water. Also TDS doesn’t tell you shit about what’s in the water. Fun fact: if you measure TDS before a carbon filter and after the TDS will be higher after it goes through the carbon, but obviously carbon filtered water tastes better. This is an example of why TDS doesn’t mean anything for drinking water. Now if you have an aquarium and are targeting zero TDS that’s when it matters.
Im a plumber. Drink my tap water with no filter. It tests great. It all depends where you live.
46ppm???? That's phenomenal. Salt Lake City area we're pushing 250-400
Dirt? Maybe iron and manganese. Filter manufacturers recommend you change them out more frequently than 6 months. Also will depend on your usage. Soooooo many variables when it comes to water. Type of service pipe and age will have a lot to do with that
We have crazy hard water in some spots out here on the West Coast. 46 ppm is cleaner than many types of bottled water! Tap water in our area will run 450 to 550 ppm and that's not as bad as some. 5 stage RO filter we'll get that down to about 10-15 ppm.
It's just NYC bro. 😂 Our tap water down here in north MS has never not been clean and clear. That said I'm sure it's full of crap leaching out of all the PVC mains.
My man! I just started my plumbing apprenticeship and videos like these help inform a young buck like me.
TDS has nothing to do with if the water is safe to drink or not and 46 is low. High TDS can make the water taste worse and causes hard water but it’s still safe to drink assuming everything else is in regulation.
Please - a whole segment about this!! Tired of water bottles!!
I have lived in nyc all my life. The water is good compared to other states but you should have a filter on all water heaters , boilers and for your drinking water. Since we installed filters on all of the gas boilers in our building we did not need to flush the boilers every year. Most landlords do not do this but all of our plumbers saw the difference and began to force all new water heater projects or boilers to have a filter installed. Hot and cold whole house filters and then a 3 filter carbon filter sediment filter for the kitchen. Our Manhattan condo we cant install a filter and literally the shower water would come out rusty in a 1.8 million dollar condo. Had to install filters on all the showers for the tenant. Any time the building has a water shut off the rust in the pipes has to be flushed out its horrible. Literally ran the tub for a hour and there were massive chunks of rust which cause tons of problems like hydronyc mentioned.
That NYC water was perfectly fine when it left upstate NY. I wonder what those tunnels my Dad helped build look like inside now.
In germany, we have filters built into where the pipes first enter the building. These filters can flush/clean themselves or, if necessary, can easily be switched out although this is basically never necessary. They clean themselves by reversing water flow backwards through the filter and out of a simple valve at the bottom. All you gotta do is hold a bucket under and open the valve for a minute or so. They can even be directly connected to a drain system to make flushing even easier, although this is very rarely done
Question: part of why we used copper (and brass) is because copper is naturally bacteria-resistant. Sooo... what happens inside PEX? Is mold and bacteria just growing wild??
Love you're videos. In Oklahoma residential plumbing is like counting beans for math to you.. we still live on well water and Sept yards. Poop fields
I bought a waterdrop 2 years ago, changed our lives. We live upstate but it's still a necessity. Easy filter changes, affordable, the only annoying part was once the filter is done there's no way to recycle it and it's a huge ass filter tube. I called them and they just said throw it away....
We drink a lot of water in my house but it goes through a lifestraw pitcher first
Best advertisement ever ! Hope they paid you well.
This was so clean. I didnt even see the sales pitch till it was too late. Bravo broski!
