Twenty years of service and that’s how it ends for him. Probably how it ends for a lot of people.

A harsh reality we all have to face eventually one day. I have way more days behind me than in front of me now and I am close to this happening. The average person will never know and can never know the things you’ve seen that keep you up at night. They don’t care that this wasn’t just a job for you. It was who you were as a person. They don’t care that you gave your youth, your time and quite often times your health to keep those who you never knew safe. They don’t care that you tried daily to make a difference, to help those in need, to save a life….and often times, you did. To them, you’re exactly this …a number. Then, it’s all gone and what are you left with?
Thank you to all of my brothers and sisters who gave so much every day! I applaud you, you are revered. Not many know….but I do! I’m proud to say I have been a part of this small and elite group of individuals for more than 25 years now.

20 years won’t even get you a pension worth a fuck. Gotta do at least 30.
