I set off to live in the remote Amazon Jungle with one of the last hunter gatherer tribes in the world to experience what life was like before the complexities of our modern society…
This experience inspired a Poem:
So now I’m left with more questions than answers, but thats how it be…
Are all of these problems; depression, suicide, obesity, loneliness, a product of us? Society??
Now don’t get me wrong, we’ve created some amazing innovations,
Without this phone I would have been incapable to communicate without a translation.
I would have been incapable to fly through the sky and be in this incredible location.
Let’s keep asking questions about our reality,
So we can understand what is beneficial and what is actually only pushing us into our own misery.
Can we find a balance of useful innovations and living in harmony with nature?
Or will we continue to make our decisions based solely on getting that paper??
I refuse to sell out so that leaves me with an empty amount,
But I feel rich in so many ways that you just can’t count.
I will never sell out or get another occupation,
So until I figure some things out, please consider making a donation💜
Big Shoutout to Dan Everett. He spent many years living with the Pirahã and he was how I discovered these amazing people. Dan arrived among the Pirahã hoping to convert the tribe to Christianity. He quickly became obsessed with their language and its cultural and linguistic implications. Noticing that the Pirahã have no counting system, no fixed terms for color, no concept of war, and no personal property, he was so impressed with their peaceful way of life that he eventually lost faith in the God he was hoping to introduce them to...
I recommend these 2 Books:
1. “Don’t Sleep There are Snakes” by Daniel Everett (To learn more about the Pirahã) amzn.to/3h2oy6T
2. “Civilized to Death” by Christopher Ryan (To learn more about looking backwards to find our way into a better future)
